Micro-Needling (Collagen Induction Therapy)

Micro-needling treatments, also known as collagen induction therapy, uses the body's natural response to healing to increase collagen or elastin in the skin. This skin rejuvenation treatment can treat:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Hyper pigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Skin texture

A minimally invasive, non-ablative procedure done in often as little as 20 minutes per session. Click here for before and after video.

How does micro-needling work?

Micro-needling is the process of using tiny needles to penetrate specific areas of the skin and stimulate the skin's natural ability to produce collagen and elastin, which in turn help the skin look and feel healthier. This is an alternative to laser resurfacing (fraxel), chemical peeling and microdermabrasion. Click here to see a treatment video.

When passed over the skin, micro-needles create tiny, evenly-spaced channels on the skin. During the body's natural wound-healing process, collagen and elastin are regenerated. This results in thicker, plumper skin just like when you were younger. For scaring, when new elastin is produced, the tight bands of scar tissue become more flexible. CIT can be performed on the face or body.

FAQ
How many treatments are necessary to achieve a good response?
Micro-needling needs a minimum of 4 treatments. Improvement is seen with each treatment but minimum a series of 4 treatments is best to achieve optimal results.

How far apart are treatments done?
Treatments can be repeated every 3-4 weeks.

Is Micro-needling safe for darker skin types?
Since no melanin-absorbing laser and no heat are involved, this treatment is relatively safer than lasers, such as IPL, for darker skin types..

Is Micro-needling painful?
Micro-Needle Pen uses very fine needles and is relatively comfortable. A topical numbing cream can be used if needed.

How long is each treatment?
For a face, each treatment is 20 to 30 minutes.

What are the immediate after-effects?
There is redness and very minimal bleeding. Most will notice redness and mild swelling similar to slight sunburn for 24-48 hours and there may be a slight pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Skin will be noticeably smoother and more radiant within a week or two. Full results will take a few months to appear.

What is the down time after Microneedling treatment?
Inflammation of the skin is very temporary and reduces greatly within a few hours. It may remain slightly pink for up to 48 hours after treatment. Using hyaluronic acid after the procedure can help reduce inflammation and sunscreen can be used to protect the skin. Makeup use should be limited to mineral makeup.

How long does it last after a series?
The results can last a year and will vary due to age, environment, skin care and health. A yearly treatment series is necessary for maintenance.

How is Micro-Needling different than a needle roller?
Needle rollers also use needles for skin resurfacing but are often too large and unwieldy for tight areas. They are also dependent on hand pressure, so the depth of penetration varies depending on the the amount of pressure exerted and the softness of the skin, while the Micro-Needling Pen depth of penetration is set precisely with a dial. There is also lateral trauma to the skin when the needles on a roller pull out of the skin as the wheel turns. This does not happen with the Micro-Needling Pen, which relies only on vertical needle action.

What is the difference between microcurrent, peels and Micro-Needling?
Microcurrent works on the muscles to firm and lift while keeping the cells healthy and active. The results are plump and hydrated skin with a series and monthly maintenance treatment.
Peels use a chemical solution to smooth the texture & improve the pigmentation of your skin by removing the damaged outer layers.
Micro-Needling uses the body's natural response to healing to increase collagen or elastin in the skin. This skin rejuvenation treatment can treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, hyper pigmentation, stretch marks and skin texture.
All three treatments can be used together to keep your skin looking amazing.

Already completed Microcurrent Series?
Micro-Needling & Peel treatment may be done 1 week prior to your microcurrent monthly session.

Can you still do Micro-Needling if you are thinking about doing a peel for pigmentation issues?
Yes, a treatment plan would be put in place alternating a peel and micro-needling every 28 days until complete.
